The Passion product team has been very busy in the past few months. Here are all the changes we rolled out in September:

  • Community members can message the creator directly
  • Community members can message each other
  • A new course overview layout with grids instead of a list
  • OTA (Over-the-air) updates that enable creators to update their apps quickly without having to go through the AppStore and PlayStore review process for all changes
  • The ability to rename app tabs (Discover, Learn, Community, Tracking, and Profile)

To see these changes, it's important to note that your app needs to be up-to-date. You can check whether your app is up-to-date by going to your Passion Dashboard > Sales Channels > Apple App Store setup (for your iOS app) or Google Play Store (for your Android App).
If the version number you see is anything lower than 3.5, you need to click on the ‘Submit for review’ button, and then follow the steps explained here for Apple App Store setup and for Google Play Store.

New Messaging Options for Community Members, UX Improvements & More

Improving the community feature was a major focus this month, so we rolled out some new options for community members to message the creator & each other. Moreover, we extended the character limit for course names, changed the course view, and made some more functionality & UX improvements. Let’s see all of them.

Allow Community Members to Message You Directly

Choosing whether you want your customers to message you directly through your app is one of the major updates we rolled out this month. No need for multiple chat applications, just answer all of their inquiries in your app.

How do you enable this feature in your app?

It takes only a few basic steps to set things up.

Step 1

Enter the community area of your app and tap & hold the community you want your users to message you from. Click Edit after tapping on it.

💡You can also create a new community by clicking the “+” sign at the upper right corner. The upcoming steps are the same in this case too.

Step 2

Then, you’ll get the following screen:

Notice the “Advanced settings” section. Expand it, and you’ll see two new buttons.

If you want to allow members of this community to message you, toggle the “Members can message you directly” button.

Step 3

Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the screen.

And, that’s it—now, the members of this community can send you direct messages.

ℹ️ Once you’ve received a message, you’ll see a notification dot next to the community where your unread messages are. Enter the community and the channel with the message, and you’ll see the member that messaged you and the number of messages you received.

Allow Community Members to Message Each Other

We also added a chat feature in your app for your community members to message each other. Encourage them to uplift and support one another in order to strengthen your community.

How do you turn on this feature in your app?

Step 1

Select the community you want to activate this for, tap & hold, and select the Edit button, just like with the previous feature.

Step 2

When you see the edit mode on your screen, expand the Advanced settings section:

Toggle the second button, called “Members can send each other direct messages.”

Step 3

Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the screen. Now, the members of this community can message each other.

A New Course Overview Layout

To make it more appealing, we changed the course overview layout. Now, instead of the previous list, the course overview is in a tiles format.

Increased Course Name Character Limit

✅ Course name upper limit has been increased from 30 to 60 characters.

✅ Lesson and sequence name upper limit has been increased from 30 to 60 characters. You’ll be able to see a counter on the right-hand side to make sure you’re within the limit. [screenshot below]

✅ The upper limit for lesson and sequence summaries has been increased to 70 characters. Here, you’ll also see a character counter on the right-hand side, so you’ll always know how many characters you have left.

We Implemented OTA (Over The Air) Updates

All Passion apps now support Over The Air (OTA) updates. This is the ability to quickly deliver a new version of an app that bypasses the AppStore and PlayStore review process.

No more resubmitting your app with every new release we make. We can fix errors or push small updates almost immediately.

You’ll only have to do it for very big changes, but we’ll let you know when that is necessary.

🟠 For smaller changes, you’ll get notified directly in your app, and you’ll be able to update it in just one click.

You Can Rename App Tabs

Finally, we implemented the option to rename your app’s tabs.

How?

1️⃣Go to your Passion Dashboard

2️⃣Click on PassionProducts

3️⃣Adjust the names of the Discover, Learn, Community, Tracking, and Profile tabs as you see fit for your business.

May be an image of text that says 'Tab settings Rename Discover > Learn Community Tracking Profile'

This was our September update, and we have a BIG feature that we’ll be working on in October.
